Sunlight on... Tomatoes!

Tomatoes... fruit or vegetable? Although botanically they're classified as fruit, they're mainly enjoyed as a vegetable. In 1893, the U.S. Supreme Court went as far as officially declaring them a vegetable due to tariff disputes (since different tariffs were set on fruits vs. vegetables). Either way you consider it, these tasty guys are available year-round with a peak season July-October.

Nutrition
Tomatoes are high in antioxidants and lycopene, which has gained a lot of attention the past few years. Lycopene has been found to protect cells, DNA, and LDL cholesterol.

Simple Ways to Enjoy
Use tomatoes in salads, salsa, dressings, relish, soup, and sauces.

  1. I've known that tomatoes were classified as fruit, but I had no idea about the SCOTUS case officially classifying them as vegetables, for tariff purposes no less, very interesting!
