Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup dairy-free milk
  • 3/4 cup frozen sweet cherries, pitted
  • 1 small ripe banana*
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. cocoa powder (or cacao powder)
  • 1-2 Tbsp. almond butter
  • 1/4 tsp. almond extract**

Toppings (optional):

  • Coconut whipped cream, cacao nibs, fresh cherries, etc.

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender. Blend until smooth, about 15-20 seconds.
  • Taste and adjust flavors if desired. (See notes for suggestions.)

Notes

*Banana: Using frozen banana will create a creamier texture. For banana-free, swap in 1/2 avocado or a large dollop vegan yogurt instead.
**Almond extract: I really enjoy the flavor, so I often add closer to 1/2 tsp.
Sweeten it: This smoothie isn't too sweet (especially if using avocado or unsweetened yogurt instead of banana). So add 1-2 tsp. pure maple syrup, a pitted date (diced), agave, or you own favorite sweetener if desired.
Other additions: Add spinach/greens, protein powder, vanilla extract, chia seeds, etc.
Yield: Recipe makes about 2 cups smoothie, which is about 1 large or 2 small smoothies.
