Servings: 2 medium mugs
- 2 cups soy milk (or other dairy-free milk)
- 1 tsp. ground turmeric
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2-3 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- Pinch of black pepper
Optional:
- 1/4 tsp. ground ginger (or freshly grated), cardamom
In a small saucepan over medium heat, add all ingredients and whisk to combine.
Heat for about 5-6 minutes until milk is hot, whisking often. Take care not to boil. Only lightly simmer until the spices are mostly dissolved.*
Carefully pour into a mug and enjoy.
*Dissolving the spices: Ground turmeric doesn't fully dissolve in milk, so some may settle at the bottom of your pan and mug. Be sure to whisk often as it heats on the stove. I also like to give my mug a gentle swirl before drinking to help it along. (Be aware turmeric can stain, so pour and use cautiously.)
Milk: I use plain & unsweetened. If using sweetened or flavored milk, you can adjust the vanilla & maple syrup as desired.
Black pepper: The pinch of black pepper is said to aid in the effectiveness of turmeric.
