These bright, sunshiny Orange Creamsicle Popsicles capture the essence of the classic version... but are made with healthier ingredients and no refined sugar! They're easy to make with vibrant citrus flavor. (Vegan, gluten-free, oil-free.)

These bright & tangy Orange Creamsicle Popsicles are a refreshing summer treat! They capture the classic creamsicle spirit... but are made with more wholesome ingredients, no refined sugar, and no heavy cream.

Best of all, they're easy to make and the mixture blends up in minutes. We combine fresh orange juice, orange zest, lemon juice, maple syrup, and a touch of vanilla. Then add in vegan Greek yogurt for a slightly creamy texture plus plant-based protein.

The result tastes like bright, sunshiny, summer on a stick! These tangy, citrus-flavored pops have become one of my favorites, and I hope you enjoy them too.

Ingredients for Orange Creamsicle Popsicles

For this recipe, you'll blend in a high-speed blender, then freeze in a popsicle mold:

  • Pure orange juice: Use freshly squeezed orange juice or store-bought refrigerated pure orange juice (with no added sugar). Or you can use a combination of both, which is usually what I do. I squeeze the juice from 1-2 oranges, then fill in the rest with 100% organic orange juice.
  • Orange zest: This adds bright, vibrant flavor. You'll need the zest from one orange, which is roughly 1-2 tablespoons. Be sure to only grate the bright orange outer layer (not the white spongy layer underneath the skin called the pith because it's very bitter). I purchase organic oranges whenever using the zest.
  • Vegan Greek yogurt: I use plain and unsweetened. You'll need 3/4 cup which is about 6 ounces. Most often I buy organic Forager Greek style yogurt (unsweetened) or Kite Hill. But swap in your own favorite or a homemade version. This adds dairy-free creaminess and protein to the pops. (You could substitute with some full-fat coconut milk or coconut cream instead, however this will change the flavor.)
  • Pure maple syrup: This provides natural sweetness and you can adjust the amount however you see fit.
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • Pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt: I use fine grain sea salt. Just a pinch helps enhance all the flavors.

Customizing

Fruit chunks: Chopped strawberries or mango add a fun twist with extra texture and flavor. Dice them and add to the popsicle mold cavities before pouring in the blended orange mixture.

Non-creamy: You can also omit or reduce the Greek yogurt for a bolder orange flavor and more icy pops. (Sometimes I knock it down to a half cup for a more vibrant orange flavor.)

Storing

Freezing: Place the popsicles in the freezer for about 6 hours before enjoying, or until they're completely solid. The final texture strikes a balance between icy and slightly creamy.

Removing the pops: To remove from the molds, set them out on the counter at room temperature for several minutes. Or run them under warm water for a few seconds so they slide right out.

Servings: 9 pops

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pure orange juice*
  • Zest from 1 orange
  • 3/4 cup vegan Greek yogurt (unsweetened, plain)
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Zest one orange with a fine grater or microplane zester. Be sure to only grate the bright orange outer layer (avoiding the white spongy layer underneath the skin called the pith because it's very bitter). Use 1-2 Tbsp. zest depending on how strong you'd like the flavor.
  • Place all ingredients in a blender. (You can adjust the yogurt amount as desired. Sometimes I drop it down to 1/2 cup for a bolder orange flavor and icy texture, or you can increase to 1 cup for subtler flavor and slightly creamier texture.) Blend for 10-15 seconds until smooth and combined.
  • Pour the mixture into your popsicle molds and insert popsicle sticks.
  • Freeze for at least 6 hours or until frozen solid. (The final texture of the pops strikes a balance between icy and slightly creamy.)

Notes

*Orange juice: Either freshly squeezed or store-bought. I use a combination the of two. I squeeze 1-2 fresh oranges (used for the zest) then fill in the rest with refrigerated 100% no-pulp orange juice with no added sugar.
Yield: Recipe makes about 3 1/3 cup (27 ounces) of the liquid mixture before freezing. For me, this makes 9 pops at about 3 ounces each. (I use a silicone mold.) You may find it yields more or less depending on your mold.
Estimated nutrition: This is calculated using dairy-free Forager Greek-style yogurt (unsweetened, plain). Adjust as needed if using another brand.
