Taco Seasoning

Our favorite DIY easy homemade taco seasoning blend! Full of bold, fiesta flavor for tacos, burritos, fajitas, soup, etc.



We finally ditched store-bought seasoning packets for this quick, homemade taco seasoning! It's a great way to save money and control the ingredients, with no additives or excess sodium. This recipe yields about 3 Tbsp. (or one store bought package). I love making a larger batch (tripling or quadrupling the recipe) and storing it in a sealed glass mason jar to have ready when needed. If you like a kick, try adding cayenne pepper and/or red pepper flakes. Ground chipotle is also a great twist - I love the smokiness!


A couple of my favorite recipes to use this is the Lentil Taco Soup (pic below) and these super easy and satisfying Portobello Fajitas (so good!)

Vegan, gluten-free, oil-free
Yields about 3 Tbsp. (double/triple/etc. as needed)

Ingredients
1 Tbsp. chili powder
1 1/2 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. paprika (I use smoked)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper (optional - if you like heat)

Directions
Measure all ingredients in a small bowl and mix to combine.
Note: if preparing for later, store seasoning mix in an airtight container at room temp.

  1. Hi, I love your site. One quick question, if I may, if I put a little extra garlic and onion powders in it, would it ruin it? I love garlic and onion.

    1. Hi Katerina! Glad you're enjoying the site :) Adding more onion and garlic powder would definitely not ruin it - go for it!! It's a pretty versatile seasoning. Hope you enjoy!
